The funnel is in fact something we call "Windhose". Its like a tornado but much smaller. We have them from time to time in heavy thunderstorms. It was much longer when i have seen it, but i had to stop the truck savely to shoot the pic.

Would that first one be what we call a 'cold air funnel'? In tornado alley where I'm from, you have to have thunder and lightning for a tornado. Cold air funnels form in other storms and are pretty impressive sometimes. They're generally harmless, but they can do a little damage. That's an interesting cloud formation in the second pic. Nice pics.

That can be right. We have them sometimes with thunder and lightning but also in other storms like this one. Mostly during summer. You describe it very exact. Harmless, but when they reach ground they could do heavy damage to roofs or lift a tree out of the soil.
The "cloud" formations are from cooling towers at nearby generating plants. They use brown coal for that. We have the biggest holes on earth here! Feel free to google " braunkohletagebau " and look at the pics!!! Very, very interesting!
