found this today, thought it was old drillstock...but it is the wrong side of the river for mining activity.

if it is what I believe, it is one of the oldest muskets ever dropped in north America.

Is it the breech of an exploded gun barrel. It looks octagon, and I think I see the remains of the vent hole.

What I see is the end of a vintage drill bit that miners used to drill a hole for dynamite ... vintage stone drills have about the same shape . Woodstock
