Although mostly everyone is roll checking either halves/dimes/nickels, my question to all is, does anyone religiously check quarter rolls/boxes. If so, with what luck, and did you ever pull a standing liberty quarter. Would be interesting to know.

I've done 5k in quarters and haven't found anything. I only do them when my dump banks start to get suspicious, then I bring in quarters to remind them of my washing machine business lol

I search cwr quarters when my bank gets them. I haven't tried mwr quarters. So far I have been skunked on all of the quarters.

Last year I searched about $1000 in CWR, just a few rolls here and there, not all at one time. I was fortunate to have found 2 silver washingtons that way. And after reading multiple threads on quarters, I found I was super lucky to have found 2 out of only $1000. So far this year I have not searched any quarters. Just sticking to halves and dimes for now.

I do quarters when I can get bags off of the coin counter. So far I've done $3,000 worth and have found 1 1959d. I'll continue to search them as long as I have the source for bags.

I search about 2k in quarters a month. Sometimes boxes, sometimes bags. Yesterday I got a box and pulled a 64d. Two silver quarters so far this year. My goal for the year is 10 silver quarters from CRH.

My results from quarter hunting (I've searched them since mid-2012):

1947-D
1964-D

1992-S (clad) proof.

I don't know the numbers, but the 2 silver quarters I got from my register at work. The proof I got out of a roll from the bank (MWR).

I usually hit two or three grand in quarters a year, and average one silver per $6-700 or so. I've received two silver Washingtons and one silver Canadian back in change in last two years.

By contrast, six years detecting I've dug over one dozen pre-'65 Washingtons, half-dozen SLQ, half-dozen or so Barbers, and one seated liberty.

I would enjoy metal detecting, but very few places around here to MD without permits etc. One of these years maybe, any suggestions on a good brand name & user friendly?

It depends on how serious you are, what you are primarily hoping to find and from where (coins, relics, beach jewelry, etc), and how much you want to spend. My father has a Garrett Ace 250. For a $212 machine, I am quite impressed. I currently have a Minelab E-Trac and its freaking awesome. I've hunted off and on since ~1980 (very regularly since ~2000) and its hands down, by far, the best coinshooting detector I've ever seen. This is my first full season with the E-Trac and I have more than doubled my best season ever as far as silver coins go. On top of that, almost every coin has came from places I had pounded over the years with my old White's DFX.

I'll pick up a few boxes here and there. I think I did a total of three boxes in 2013.

I have far better luck with reject and teller trays for quarters.

No permits needed when you hit private yards. That's all we do here, my best and oldest yard find - 1758 silver Reale.
