Ain't no snake gonna stop me from lookin for artifacts in my creek

Well it was a beautiful warm day in Western NC, so beautiful the water snakes are out sunning but that didn't stop me from hunting artifacts but I had on my thick rubber boots and we're not supposed to have Cottonmouths in this part of NC so not so afraid then :tongue3: That being said a really nice one did slide off the bank into the water but left and I'm glad for that so continued what I was doing and found a couple shards and a piece of carbon/graphite not sure, I find them quite often and have no idea what they are used for. We do have a big carbon plant in our town though so not surprised to find them.

The small shard is red like the red clay around here and I find them pretty regular so not sure if they used red clay or if it's the slip I've seen mentioned on here but the sand bars from the big flood event we had a few weeks ago is still giving :hello2:

Nice pottery finds! The carbon piece may be the center core for a battery.

Thanks old digger, would it be a battery like for flash light type stuff or car battery? I have found whole batteries and also have found a few old car parts in the creek. It's amazing what people toss in a creek.

The carbon rod would be from a drycell. Tony

Darn, thought I was gonna see a snake! lol.

I havent seen any snakes yet but Im sure I will. No cottonmouths here either they say. I know I have seen 1 but it was in a lake a couple of years ago. They dont like the cold spring fed creeks with current but the copperheads dont care. Ive yet to see any biting snakes so far knock on wood.

Sounds like a nice outing with pottery, it is nice to see sings of warming up saw some plumb blossoms on the way to hunt.

Yes, I believe a A battery like you use in a flashlight.

I'm proud of you Peaches. Don't let no snake stop you!

No snake pictures?

good on ya for not killing them

I'm glad you were able to get out and find some artifacts!

No snakeys today, too cold and windy and found another shard. Sorry for misleading anyone with no snake pics but like I mentioned the water snakes waste no time when you surprise them and take off into the water which is fine since I'm not too keen on being bitten. In a few more weeks they will be all over the place with babies, I'm really dreading that since it adds an entirely different level to the hunt lol

snakes are really not that bad, just make alot of noise and do not step on them.worry about ticks and mosquitoes.not kidding.

Have you read the new discovery on tick bites? We have so many different varieties of ticks here from tiny to large. But they are saying now a certain type of tick can cause you to have "Hoof Disease" All I know is last summer I got bit a few times no big deal I thought. Since then I cant eat pork at all without getting sick. I wake up the next day and all of my joints hurt. Mostly chicken now and a little beef is all I can eat and Lots of salad.

nope,i do not want anything to happen to Peaches.

Nice pottery Peaches. We've had some good days here in NC for the last week to get out.
