Albuquerque New Mexico hot air ballon festival

Well it's Oct. again and time for our hot air ballon festival This year there are 550 ballons registered from all over the world. Today was the special shapes liftoff. It is quite a spectacle. Sorry some of the pics. are blurry, had to keep the car moving.

Hi jonnycat. Thanks or posting these. I spent a few years on Kirtland AFB as a youngster and I loved when the balloon festival would come to town. It seems like they used to land at the airport on base so many of them would fly right over our house. I remember seeing them also at night when they would fire the balloons while on the ground and it was like a huge light show. I would love to come back sometime and see this again. I have seen other festivals advertised at other places, but I do not think any are as big as this. We live on the coast of FL so I think that because of the chance of drifting out over the water and having a wet landing they do not come here? I do not recall ever seeing one unless it was tethered and just for a ride up and back down again.

I would love to see more pics, especially if you have any with lots of balloons in the sky at once.

Cool pics, johnnycat. The wind was pretty bad up here over the weekend, so I hope it didn't swing down that way and cause y'all too many problems.

Quite the sight to see if you never have. My uncle used to fly and we were always volunteering for his "chase crew". What a blast! I flew with him once during a festival... WOW! The evening "balloon glow" is a neat thing to see also. Gotta whatch those winds though
