I live on a mountain where the snow is still thick, but down in town, all the snow is gone, the weather today was in the 60s, so the kiddos and wife wanted to go to a local park to do a little bike riding and some time outside. I figured I could maybe get some hunting in while I was there.
I usually don't like to hut this park because it's really trashy. Its an old community airport that was converted into a park. It has a number of ball diamonds, tennis courts, bike trail and concession stand. I started out with the 5.75 concentric on the Vaquero which was working really well in breaking up the signals but there was so much junk in the ground I thought there was something wrong with the machine! It was so busy chattering I could barely get it ground balanced and when I finally did, I had a hard time disc, out all the junk. I finally had to max out the disc. and hope I would come across some dimes and quarters, and if I was lucky maybe some silver.
I kept telling myself to just dig everything (that's what I usually do, or at least everything above Iron and foil) but I was spending so much time going to my knees, I thought I was doing calisthenics. . . I decided to switch to the 9X8 and head to one of the fields, but there wasn't much of a difference with the trash but then finally, I pulled out a clad quarter from 1980.
By the end of the 2 hours I made it out with about 2 lbs of aluminum and .40 cents in change. . . .I guess officially I didn't get skunked, but it wasn't from a lack of trying!
