"Altadena Treasure: Altaville (Calif) residents claim this one is untrue but they keep looking for it. A dishonest clerk in a store during the goldrush days pilfgered a huge amount of money from his employer & customer. It was hidden in a double wall in the basement of the store. His employer killed him for seducing his daughter, so maybe the money is still there."
