Am I doing something wrong?

Right so if I have high mineralization I should GB. I saw a lot of videos that left it at zero so that’s what I did.

Truth. Correct, if you have high mineralized soil you should GB, but a high GB number on your detector in and of itself does not necessarily mean you have high mineralization. Other soil properties can cause a high ground phase #. To be sure mineralization is causing the high ground phase you need to also have a separate Fe3O2 mineralization meter. Unfortunately, the Equinox doesn't have one of those. Regardless, no harm done doing a GB as long as your soil has a medium level of mineralization. HTH.

The plastic bag is a good idea. The two of us temporarily "lost" a CW eagle button when we were testing the 800 in bad ground, so adding the string is good. There was no way I was letting a button in a zippie bag escape! We acted like a pair of mad groundhogs digging for it! It was put in too deep and on edge.

Truth -- I hear your concerns. I am supremely confident a correctly functioning Equinox will easily hit an 8" minie, but -- curious how your machine air-tests that target. Did you try a "depth" in an air test with it, by chance?

I was holding the machine so I was about 5” away. Well I didn’t ground balance and cancel noise so maybe that was it. I’m going tomorrow to give it another try. Supposed to rain at 11am so I’m staying up and leaving at 5:30 the spot is a hour away. I’m sick lol

I would test it in your own yard if you have the opportunity just to be sure you don't have a detector problem b4 you schlep all the way out there again (or at least take a backup detector). In any event, test it against one of your existing detectors too for additional info too, to see if you can pinpoint the issue. Good luck.

ah, the learning curve of a new machine (my curve is more like a mountain LOL). when you finally get the "bugs of learning" worked out, you will be killing it with it and we will see the proof of it. We have a lot of very good people here to help us even when we(I) ask even stupid questions. just don't lose those minies. it won't be too long and you will be helping others struggling with their Noxs. don't feel alone about taking longer, it is what it is. if you read just a small portion of my questions, you would wonder about me. But many of us have been in similar situations and wait to hear what transpires. then heck, you hear of people that dig like groundhogs trying to find something that they had previously buried. (sounds like something I would do but that plastic bag and string trick sounds like it might would work...just having a string that you could find to mark the spot would be nice. LOL) would have loved to have seen and recorded that...just for references of course.

No bad or dumb questions on this stuff, that's what this board is all about. I like to help out with the equipment because I can't yet sniff out the keepers like most of y'all. Besides, since every manufacturer chooses to do things differently, it gets confusing to keep all the different buttons, tones, and menus straight.
