AMAZING...INCREDIBLE...8 REALE!!!!! (New Pic Added 12 Nov 06)

I found this about 2 hours ago at a homestead which has been around for over 300 years. In the same yard I also found a 1799 Britannia! I thought I had found the pinacle with the 1799 Britannia but 20 minutes later I found this...

It was only 4 inches down...I hit it with the shovel as seen in the pic. 1798 8 Reale!!! I almost fainted! I am still giddy with excitement!!!

Really great find,that coin is in wonderful condition,dont see very many come up for auction in that kind of shape,I would let it soak for a night, rinse it off realy good and get that puppy in an airtight before you let yourself beat the poor thing up anymore :} 8 reale was the spanish silver crown coin, most large countrys have a big silver crown. The US uses the silver dollar,Panama:the Balboa,Peru:un Sol,Phillipines,Mexico,Dom.Rep. all used a silver Peso. Even today countrys produce a silver crown US:silver eagle,Canada:the lovely silver maple,Mexico:the Onza,China:the Panda,. They all weigh around 28 grams though the silver content of them varies through the years and across different countrys,though nowadays they are all solid silver .99 or better. Silver crowns are my favorite coins to collect I have a few if you want to take a look

Great going with the SE,is it that dramatic of an improvement over the XS? Ive read the pinpointing is a lot better now and also read that the recovery time on the machine is better? Anything else I dont know?...HH

Incredible coin, period! I wouldn't worry too much about a nick. I doubt if you'd ever be able to sell it anyway.

Romeo...AWESOME find!!!!!!!!! Congrats!!!!!! I wouldn;t worry too much about the nick either, obviously I am sure you wished it wasn;t nicked, but is a GREAT find regardless!!!!!! Looks like it is in fantastic condition too, I wouldn;t do more than rinse it and rub it VERY lightly with your fingers, it should clean up well that way. Am happy for you, for that is one sweet find!!!!

That totally awesome!! If I had known you had stuff like that in Nova Scotia I would have taken my detector with me. I just got back from a week in Halifax. Of course I was greeted with a snow storm on Monday.

I am not sure if it would ruin its value , but w/ the location of the ding - it be possible to buff or lightly polish by a professional jeweler or someone who could appreciate the esthetics and do just enough to make it okay ? I ain't mad , happy for you , sheesh !!! One hell of a find .. Congratulations .........
