AMAZING...INCREDIBLE...8 REALE!!!!! (New Pic Added 12 Nov 06)

I found this about 2 hours ago at a homestead which has been around for over 300 years. In the same yard I also found a 1799 Britannia! I thought I had found the pinacle with the 1799 Britannia but 20 minutes later I found this...

It was only 4 inches down...I hit it with the shovel as seen in the pic. 1798 8 Reale!!! I almost fainted! I am still giddy with excitement!!!

Sorry for the crappy pics...I could barely stop my hand from shaking!!!

I was dumbfounded when I saw it in the hole...I did not know what I was looking at...I didn't realize that the 8 reale was so BIG!!!

its a shame you nicked it. look at the detail on that coin! it must have not been in circulation for long. most reales you see are really worn. that one looks like it was dropped yesterday! great find!!

Yep, I almost had a heart attack when I realized what it was and that I had dit it with the shovel!!!

One hell of a find! What did it read on your SE? That detector has payed for itself many times over! Too bad you "decked" it, dude! I learned the hard way when I "decked" an 1875-S Seated dime. Keep it up, man!

I cannot remember what it read on the SE...I detect in the SmartFind mode so the readings are not shown...I'll scan it with the detector when I get back home and see what kind of numbers it gives...

Can anyone recommend how it should be cleaned? Since I have already nicked it should I just rinse it under the tap and brush the soil away?

I almost fainted for you! It is certainly aheart breaker to feel that metal on metal contact. But, hey!! Who cares? Its a reale!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude awesome find!!! Just take a tooth brush and gently work it under running water. That'll get the dirt out of the tough nooks and crannies very nicely. After that, it looks like that coin will look like it wasn't even in the ground. Way to go!!!

i agree with nate. just a little water and a very light scrub. it is in such great shape it doesnt need much cleaning in my opinion. i probably wouldnt even scrub it with the toothbrush, just my fingers and a little water.
