I found this in a creek in southwest Georgia that was full of cretaceous period fossils. It is very light. Half dollar for size. I wondered for years what it was. I showed it to gem dealer last year who broke off a tiny piece, put a flame to it and it smelled like fresh cut pine. Amber.

'Amber-in-the-making'.... beautiful :) Yakker

I believe you are right Yakker. I found several pieces of this in the creek. Over the years, I have given away all the pieces but this one. I really like it and it sits on a shelf where I can see it everyday. I really want to go back to Georgia for about a one week trip. It might be the end of me but what a way to go!

Did it fire right up, like fire starter? Cool pine resin or has any of it petrified?
I regularly burn frankincense resin.
My mom, when she was growing up, 1920's, '30's, in SW GA, if they ran outta chewing gum, they'd chew pinetree resin, till the country peddler came back around. They'd buy a pack of Dentyne, for a nickel, I think it was.
Thanks for sharing.

pat-tekker-cat, It takes a few second to catch and burns bright blue and smells like pine.

I use different resins like that from several species of trees and frankincense as incense also
