AMERICAN MILITARY BUTTONS & CANADIAN CAPBADGE FOUND IN UK - HELP>>>

I found these items in a field with 30-40 other WW1 capbadges & loads of buttons.
Largest button 29mm dia, small one 16mm. No readable marks on reverse.

Are the buttons WW1?

Why were they in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire?

Is the Canadian Rifle Corp badge WW1?

Any ideas please?

Everything you ever wanted to know about Victoria Rifles of Canada:

http://www.regiments.org/regiments/na-Canada/volmil/qc-inf/003vict.htm#history

They have been active since the Fenian Raids in 1870, so it's quite probable the badge is WWI. Possibly a camp or staging area there? Now part of Royal Canadian Regiment - the regiment has a museum here in London, if you don't get anything further, let me know and I may be able to put you in contact with someone with more info.

The buttons are U.S. Army "Great Seal" general service buttons, introduced in 1902 and still in use today.

Reply to the above;

Not really as I research all my pieces thoughly especially those bits I am unsure of.

The reason for this posting is more of a WHY than a what, but there isn't a area called 'Why was it here?'.

Local historians & myself are puzzelled by the number of different regiments capbadges found in one field. As there are no records of a camp/field hospital or anything like it. I was hoping that people out there may see a link because of the rarity of US & Canadian troops over here, therefore answering the WHY question.

Thanks,

Dug...nice finds and makes it more interesting having a little mystery to why they were where you found them....good luck in finding out...:)

Michelle...PBK is amazing isn;t he?? I have only seen one thing he hasn;t been able to identify..I posted a shamrock/clover purse like thingie and the only reason he hasn;t come back with an answer is that he probably didn;t see it....:) Not only does PBK identify them, but does it quickly which is even more impressive!!!!!!! Now granted the internet simplifies things, but you gotta know what to type in the search engines. I don;t impress easily but PBK has impressed me immensely.
