Well Beep maybe to him it was treasure.

Who knows u may have just sparked enuf interest in him that you`ll see him out there with a detector in his hand someday. :)

Were they the old style pulltabs at least? :) Pretty funny story.I can picture this guy doing it! Facial expressions and all! :o ;D Nice horseshoe ring btw!

No, they were just the modern squarish ones...it am still laughing about it. I would love to know what he was thinking. He'd probably never seen a detector before and was just very interested, but the silent pantomime he went through was classic.

HH!

Interesting story and nice finds. Poor guy though....that may have been his first time seeing this.

Very nice photos and interesting story. Thanks for posting the link.

Some people who are unfamiliar with modern technology (ie metal detectors) get a real kick out of us finding junk in the dirt/sand. To them it is magical. I have to admit that the first time I saw somebody metal detecting (in the early 1970s) I thought the same thing. How can an invisible "ray" find buried treasure? That's what I thought that first time I saw a MD. It was shortly thereafter that a friend of mine gave me...yes, GAVE ME...his slightly used White's Coinmaster 6000Di. The magical mystery of metal detectors has been unmasked since that day, but the thrill of the hunt still dwells within me. Maybe the Asian man on the beach was just as awed by the mysterious and magical ways of the MD?

Well I have not been to Stewart beach in over ten years, Still have the go-carts and golf there?? Ever go hunt Peppermint Park?? We lived there in the early 60's...Probably not an area you would venture into unarmed these days.
