In keeping with that really long thread going on now I thought it would be fun for me to start a story and have each member who wishes to come on and add a few lines and see where it takes us. This is something my family use to do over the holidays and it was often hilarious. I'll Start it:

One cool morning in the fall I grabbed my metal detector and headed out for a really good spot to coin shoot. I didn't notice but my car was low on gas and I ran out right in front of this old rundown shack in a bad part of town. Little did I suspect........

...never trusted banks and had a penchant for digging holes....

Oblivious of this information at the time I was very reluctant to depart from the safety of my car. Not that I had much of a choice. As if running out of gas in this particular part of town wasn't bad enough, I noticed, I had left my cell phone at home as well.

...as it would seem....(you need to have conflict)

He had a tinpot of coffee brewing and reluctantly offered me a cup.I could see from the shape of his small cabin ,that he was a miser. Newspapers covered the walls, the furniture was scarce,a tattered quilt covered the small cot pushed into a corner.....I asked his name and he answered gruffly "Hank". Then he told me that he didnt have a phone nor any gas. Thats when I noticed the room had been lit by small kerosene lamps. I was at least fifteen miles from the nearest town and had passed no other homes on the ride here....

Then he asked what was I doing in his neighborhood? When I answered, "Doing a little Metal Detecting!", I noticed his beady eyes suddenly dart to a pile of old rusty shovels in a corner of the shack.

...he then explaned he had one of the first Md's made during WWII and he has found.....

.........countless thousands of pulltabs. Meanwhile, Aunt Martha having followed me into town lies in a ditch two short blocks away.......................

...her ancient eyes so myopic that she has to practically have her nose to the ground to have any hope of finding those elusive coins her new Explorer has beeped over so steadily.

In the meantime back at the cabin, while sipping the rather strong coffee I noticed in the flickering oil lamp lights that the newspapers all had pretty much the same story pertaining to a lost.......

......treasure of Burford the mad land pirate ! Burford had supposedly hid the loot near the same location as i was sitting at right now ! The old hermit snatched the papers and threw them into a fireplace before i could see any more..............

"Hey...I wasnt finished reading those yet!"'I said , grabbing the papers from the fireplace. Hank glared at me . Where had I seen this grizzley bear of a face before?
Just then, the door flung open...."Aunt Martha? " What are you doing here?" I exclaimed.
"Martha? Is that really you ?' asked Hank as he went towards her.

Hank stared as if struck dumb, then managed to utter,"You...You... You stole all my money!", as his vise-like hands gripped her throat!

" I didnt steal your money, you old goat",Aunt Martha cried," I see all these years alone didnt make you any more polite....now get me a cup of coffee and maybe ,just maybe I will help you find that money".
I was totally confused,as Hank went to heed Aunt Marthas command.
"How do you know each other? "...I asked. Aunt Martha smiled.." We were once engaged." And ...she said ...addressing Hank.....Buford was my great grandfather...not yours.................

Hank stood there as if rooted to the spot, then managed to croak, "Bah!, Buford was nothing but an old fashioned Whiskey Maker, a Moonshiner, they call it now"! "That's where all the loot came from!" "I started that Pirate & Lost Treasure Yarn to protect your family name."
"But now, its mine, all mine!"

"What do you mean it's all yours", exclaimed Aunt Martha, "You know darn good and well that Burford had to start making shine after his tenant came to the house demanding that he turn over that parcel of land to him as payment for raising that bountiful crop of cotton!" "When Great grandma Elsie stepped out on the porch and told him to leave and forget that nonsense-he shot her."
Aunt Martha exclaimed, "That left Burford with 12 children to raise all by himself and he had no choice but to start bottling shine to put food on the table and clothes on their backs!"...........
