If you frequent the waters of the Animas, an EPA accident has released 1 million gallons of mining waste into the waterway.
Animas River fouled by 1 million gallons of contaminated mine water - The Denver Post

The La Plata County Sheriff's Office has closed the river from the San Juan County line – including Durango – to New Mexico. Authorities say they will re-evaluate the closure once the EPA tests are confirmed.

I see the cries for "much needed", "past due" reform of the 1872 mining laws, and talk of royalty payments to the government are starting to show up in the articles as well as a need for increased funding for the overburdened EPA. Also read where the EPA is having folks, specifically the Navajo sign releases for future damages against the EPA in order to receive a current damages claim. It would be a powerful statement if every miner of every type across the nation filed a symbolic claim for damages against the EPA for what they have done and what they are doing with the anti-mining spin they are putting on their F'up.

I like governor Brown's outfit did he star in demolition man? he looks like the ruler of san angeles.

It's better to be thought a fool than open ones mouth and remove all doubt.

The impact of 17,000 environmental wackos in need of psychotherapy is not likely a successful/wining agenda; regardless of the media utilized.

On the bright side, I'm thankful to the EPA. They are providing real proof and much needed legitimate scientific data that shows what we have been saying all along in terms of what our modern endeavors do to the environment. These irrefutable facts should go a long way in the current and upcoming court cases. Especially when comparing the magnitude and difference in scale of our plumes and subsequent "discharge" vs their 3 million plus gallon, mult-state watershed altering fubar. Makes what we do pretty much a non detect insignificant issue I'd say. Look out Sierra Fund your legitimacy is really in question now.

Sorry about the gov. Brown crack. But you're right fowled seems like the EPA has a little mud in their eye so to speak. Hopefully they will lighten up on you cali. guys

If the EPA does the right thing they will fine themselves for this accident just as they do when they go after any other entity who violates the rules. But after seeing the coal ash spill years later in Tennessee by a gov entity (TVA) I know that will not happen. The agency will just go heavy handed across the board and absorb this cost.Unfortunatley I foresee the burden placed on the miners.
As Kevin said we also have creeks here that run orange from natural minerals with zero mining near.

Kevin, I am not going to get in a debate with your liberal point of view, it has been my experience over the years Liberals will always marginalize the conservative, as you have done with your statement and lack of supporting links, many of my friends whom enjoy the outdoors and support PC, is a shot in the foot,, what has me more worried are all those that support your comment, if it walks like a duck
Environmentals are more likely to lobby which anti-mining group of politicians, so with your continue support of this group will this help or hinder mining, farming, ranching, logging, access to public lands
But I reside in California what do I know

I don't understand what was Kevin supporting....he said he and his wife were involved...and noticed at the end of the day that the local media spun what they wanted how they wanted....he didn't even mention a specific subject...just first hand experience....

Our own media shoots itself in the foot while its foot is in its mouth ...(forums...groups)......look at the mmac horrible idea but, on the forums..."miners" think its great cause they read about it on a mining forum....or WMA.....spreading misinformation about hibanking permits.....two times they have published articles that would give the impression that some new regulations have passed....and we must lend financial support for the fight...even though nothing has changed on paper for decades....

Sometimes(a lot) miners are the worst thing for miners.........and again I don't understand what Kevin said wrong and how he is now supporting liberal media? did I miss another comment somewhere?

No idea where you are getting your ideas about me. Since when is being skeptical of the media a "liberal" thing? Since when is trusting Barry's (Clay Diggins) research a mistake? Let's go to PM for this convo since it's not relevant to the thread.

PS I'm not a duck but I do eat them ;)

Anyone else having trouble actually seeing this video? I am told the content was blocked due to not having a valid security certificate. The sound is still there, but not the pictures. As soon as I click on it, the picture of the red-orange Las Animas River disappears. Has the EPA gotten Youtube to block this?

I have tried this on two different computers.

maybe this will help tring to get a direct6 link to youtube, just clik the bottom right youtube

The original post and the one with your comments both just worked on my computer.

Hennis describes how he was forced at economic gunpoint to allow the EPA full access to his property, with their dictatorial fiefdom beginning approximately four years ago. He was given a choice between immediate cooperation with the green Gestapo or fines in the amount of $35,000 for every day he resisted. He said, “When you’re a small guy and you’re having a $35,000-a-day fine accrue against you, you have to run up the white flag.” Mine Owner Interviewed - EPA Strong-Armed Their Way Onto Property, Then Created Toxic Animas River Spill | ConstitutionRising.com

Where is the interview? This appears to be someone's conclusions of what someone else said?

That original interview is 10 years old. You can READ IT HERE.

Todd Hennis is still trying to get his story heard, without much success. The media feeding frenzy is either going to present this as a mining disaster or just let it fade away. It's all about the money.

Read Todd's latest interview HERE. His story hasn't changed in the last 10 years.

I wish we could turn the attention on this story back on the perpetrators. Not Todd or mining or the EPA but specifically Steve, Paula, Liz and Cynthia.

I've learned through the years that if you want action out of an agency you must go to the source. These named individuals caused this spill to promote their own goals. If you point to the EPA all you are going to get is more hoorah from both sides and a bunch of political nonsense. This thread is a perfect example of how that works.

Did Steve, Paula, Liz and Cynthia have orders from higher up? We can't know that without asking Steve, Paula, Liz and Cynthia. Will they give us the answers we want. He77 no, Not until they are indicted for their actions. Once that happens they will be pointing fingers and naming names quite willingly.

Learn a lesson from an old dog. If you want results from the government you've got to put some person's hand in the fire. Once they smell the meat cooking you will get results. Waiting around for some nameless boss to do the right thing is pointless. They didn't do the right thing to begin with and they certainly aren't going to man up just because you think they should.

Put Steve Way, Paula Schmittdiel, Liz Fagen and Cynthia Peterson on the spot and you will see results. Otherwise it's just more media distraction.

Bullseye! Fire for effect! As a government employee I can tell you there is no way their actions were sanctioned from above, it doesn't work that way. Everything is CYA, liabilitiy, and damage control. Projects are micromanaged to the hilt, it takes a sign off by the project team, then the design or engineering people, then the management team, then the safety folks, then the risk assessment people and on and on. We are always told to never say or do what we wouldn't want our families to see on TV or read in the paper. Not to mention the snails pace at which the wheels of progress move to get to the point of action in a project. I don't believe for one second it was an accident. That being said there is nothing to prevent a disgruntled or idealistic lower level employee from doing just this type of action. They know they will not be personally prosecuted and can pass the blame around to those above them that "let them" do it. Most at the lower level are protected and won't even lose their job. More than likely they will get a paid administrative leave until the spin and blame game blow over

Read a story here earlier today where someone from the EPA stated that this wouldn't have happened if they had more money. So what does that tell you all? I'll find it either tonight or tomorrow.

And "we" put up with this gustopo acts against our people???? Are Americans that stupid (like o claims) or do they just don't want to pull their heads out of the sand and see what really is happening to our Country?
