Another Capped Bust 1/2 Dime & misc.

I found a capped bust a few weeks ago and tonight a friend of mine found this one hunting an old site with me. We had trouble finding the site at first and finally started hitting a little iron. I found a pewter button and some other flat-buttons but there wasn't much there to begin with. I told him if we found a coin, it would be an old one. She's chipped, worn, bent, scratched and dimpled but still a top-notch find for Michigan. I also added a picture of other recent finds in the last couple days and wondered if anyone knew what the relic at the bottom center was. It almost looks like it has a tab in the middle like a suspender clip but I haven't seen this before and I know it is old. The IHP's are 1864, 1865 and 1868. Thanks for looking and sorry for the bad lighting in the pics.

After further review, in my opinion it is not counterfeit. We compared machine signals between this one and the one I recently found and they were the same. These better pictures show that it might have been in a fire which would explain the bubbles and the break??? Any more thoughts?

tough one to tell, but I'd say if it signals like the other one (in the neighborhood of a zinc penny), then its probably legit... I would think a pewter counterfeit would signal closer to a nickel or even lower.. a fire very well could have caused the bubbling and weakened it enough to break

I would think pewter would hit low as well and yes, these hit around the same as a zincoln. Thanks for bringing this up for discussion though. If I get a chance, I may post another find from this site. It is a piece of iron that I believe is half of a shoe from an oxen. Haven't seen one on here before but I can't think of anything else it could be.

A capped bust will take your breath away every time!

Counterfeit or not, any coin that early from MI is a keeper. Nice digs, guys! A fire does seem like a viable explaination for the break and dimples.
