Went back to the trails Saturday morning and afternoon...took a break for lunch. The morning I spent up at the section where I found the 2 classic head large cents and a few flat buttons. Only was able to find another flat button...wnated another coin but you can't have everything. This button has "LONDON DOUBLE GILT" on it and around the shank there is some kind of olive branch or something pattern. The button is about 20mm in diameter. Anyone know what time frame for this one and maybe a little more background on the manufacturer? Was it actually made in England?
In the afternoon I went back and took my son and a neighbor kid (11yrs old) up there and let them go around with my lender detector. The kid comes up with part of a silver utensil handle. Not sure if it was a fork or spoon though. I hit the trash site digging up more shards of pottery for the pieces I am trying to glue back together. When we got back to the house we washed the silver handle and found the words "PATENT 1861" on it. SO that was a nice keeper for the boy on his first detecting hunt. I did not get a pic of the handle but I do have pics of the pottery shards for you all to look at.
Thanks for looking
