I got off work at two o'clock today and made a bee line for the lumber camp. I made up my mind this week that when I went back I was going to take off the X-8 and put on the X-12 and go over the area again that I had found the IH and Barber dime two weeks ago. The grounds as dry as a popcorn fart and even though its easier to git under and around the brush with the 8 inch coil I wanted the extra depth the 12.5 would give me. Seamed to help as I started finding more brass artifacts right away. A pocket knife, A small ( hat pin maybe) that looks like a mini shotgun shell that says ( Winchester repeater THE 97.20% SHELL). Also a brass piece that says Whitman's on it. Looks like it may of been a decoration on the back of a book or something. I recovered a another railroad coat button and a two hole flat button along with another dozen or so pieces. Then In a stretch of no more than 15 or 20 feet and nearly in a strait line I got three nice coins in this order a 1907 IH, 1905 V nickel and a 1889 seated dime. That kept me going till it was to dark to see . Good luck everyone HH Thanks for looking.

Wow! You had an excellent after work hunt.Nice assortment of relics and some great coins. The Seated dime is a fine lookin piece of silver. You've got a great site for sure.
The dry ground is actually a plus when it comes to finding silver. The days are getting shorter so it's good that your work day ended early so you could get out and enjoy some hunt time.Best of luck and HH!

Wow, those are some killer finds. The coins are in great condition and the shotgunshell pin is fantastic.....Congrats on your rewards....Joe

I found that same RR button at an old RR camp in New Mexico. I was lucky in that it still had the front and the back together. It's in really nice shape.

DUMBELL THING...Is a screw post, usually brass, and typically used with a bridle, and sometimes with a martingale. Probably more contemporary...late 19th thru today.

Was used in leiu of a leather thong as a connector.

Today, these are also made from aluminum and plastics...some with or without screwdriver chisel slots.

Man you are really on a roll at that site! The oldest thing I've found in Suwannee County is a Canadian dime dated 1920 at one of the springs. Your finds prove that there is still alot of old coins in the ground in our region.

That is really a great bunch of digs, neat how you found all the coins in a row, maybe an old clothesline or path the the privvy. Ive had an explorer2 for a couple of months now and the first time I used my x-12 was this past weekend, you didnt say how deep you were digging the coins,I was wondering if you get a better signal with the bigger coil? Ive only used mine at a really clean beach, but Ill tell ya it will go really deep on a really small nail. Im always in a ton of trash so Ive been afraid to use the 12 incher. Do you think the extra depth is worth losing the pinpointing of the smaller coil? I havent been able to dig very many deep coins so far but Ive only used the 8 inch coil and Im dying to talk to anyone that is good with an explorer.

Hi Shootist, The coins were not that deep maybe 6 inches at the most. The grass and weeds in that spot were like wire and it was hard to keep the coil close to the ground. The X-12 was heavier and even a inch or two off the ground was still able to hit targets. Most of the time I'm useing the x-8 with the sens maxed out but you may not be able to do that were you at. That being said on a hot spot where I know theres coins I will go over with both coils. Are you hunting in conduct or ferrous?

That button with the train on it was identified to me as one used on a line of "industrial" clothing like overalls but not specifically used by the railroads. I found one a couple years ago and researched it on the internet.

Thanks for the info dayton. I came across a web site a guy was selling them as Railroad employees buttons and was going off that.

Nice group of relics!

Great detail on your Indian Head. Anytime you can read "Liberty" on it and V-Nickels then you know it's in real nice condition. HH
