Another great day TH'ing gives up two more super silver finds

Hi Folks!

Went back to the same area on the fort early yesterday where I found the seated dime last Sunday. It was another pleasant day and perfect for detecting

Didn't have a clue what I was about to find Starting digging a few wheats to start off the day then came across a few good dime signals but turned out to be clad. Also dug several good nickel signals but all were pulltabs

Got a little deeper in the woods next to an old oak tree and got a nice 90 signal at 3-1/2" deep. Dug the signal and out pops this nice '57 Franklin

After finding nothing else in this area, I worked my way out of the woods and spotted an interesting deserted military building down the street on the same side of the road.

The grassy area and trees next to the building looked pretty promising so I decided to detect there but not before I took a break under the shade

After drinking a Coke and a snack, started hunting the side of the building.

Folks, it wasn't five minutes later I got another 90 signal at 3" deep! ...Not again! Dug the target and out pops this '42 Walker!!

Couldn't believe finding two halves in one day!


Funny thing about it, didn't find any other silver, just the halves

I spotted this old church on the fort on my way home. Think I'm going to hunt the big grassy areas next weekend

Great day for sure.

2 halfs would be exciting. If there are halfs there are smaller silver some where around.

Takes alot of tight swinging with the stock coil to cover that much ground.

Congrats on the nice silver! Military posts are nice places to detect. Do you know where they trained or where any obstacle courses are? I have pulled well over $120.00 from one obstacle course. HH, Mike

Yeah, there are a few obstacle courses that I've hunted on the fort, but found mostly clad and a few silver coins. I think other detectorists over the years have hammered these obstacle courses because there are so few coins I've found. I primarily hunt the wooded areas where the soldiers trained since WWI but a large percentage of my silver finds are dated in the 1940's because more soldiers trained and lost more coins during WWII on the fort than any other time.

When my wife hunts with me I call her my portable storage unit. She will carry my gear and drinks while I am swinging. Another reason I married her. Shes the best and puts up with me!

You need new gloves . Oh, and the halves are nice, too. How did you get permission to hunt the base?

Yeah, I know it .....bet I've had that pair for at least two years Most of the base has been closed for years so now it belongs to the City and some areas it belongs to the local Wildlife Preserve. I didn't have to have permission to hunt these areas

There's a lot of ground to cover for sure. So far, within the last couple of weeks detecting, I've managed to find (3) silver dimes found last Sunday and the (2) halves found yesterday so hopefully there's a few more good coins lurking around in that particular area.

I love finding halves. I have only found one franklin half. The Walkers are more plentiful. Finding one each in a day would make me happy.

Yeah, it's a fun day finding Any silver half. I believe I've found more Franklins than Walkers and (1) Barber half since detecting a little over four years ago. Luck has been on my side 8)
