What a rollercoaster day! Started out with DiggerBug picking me up this morning. We headed out to our new hunting buddies place to check out what she had been finding on her property. Got there, hunted a few minutes, got trampled by the horse, (I'm OK..and so is the detector) ;D ,recovered quickly ;D and went to the front to hunt for a couple of lost jewelry items. Had hunted about an hour and Charlie calls and wants me to go to the dr.'s with him. :-\ So...long story short, I was feeling sorry for myself cause I had to leave and spend the rest of a perfect afternoon in the dr.'s office. Finally got home and decided to go across the road and hunt a spot that I had been working on. I had found this on an old map from the late 1800's and had spent a few minutes hunting there in September, but it was so hot then, I didn't stay long. I did find the pottery pieces and was satisfied that I had found the right spot.

The map had shown two structures and I had found the first early in the year. Lots of horseshoes and nails and that's where I had found my first NC Confederate button.

Had been there about an hour and found odds and ends, but nothing exciting. Finally got a great signal (74 on the MXT) and dug four inches. Out pops the button! It's REALLY dirty and I didn't know FOR SURE what it was, but after finding the first one, I had a feeling that I had found another. The soil here (if you can call it that) is clay. Turns everything red and doesn't want to come off easily. I probably should have waited to clean it up better before I took the pics, but I was so excited at finding it, I wanted to share. :) The next signal was a tiny back of a button and still has the shank. The rest of the hunt was the normal stuff. I feel much better now. :D

I rinsed the button with water and used a soft toothbrush for a minute. I thought it was neat to have a spot of shiny on the back!!

Hope you all have a great weekend!!! Find something good!!!

Re: Another NC Confederate Button!!!

Those are some sweet finds for sure. I like that bug thing, too. Way to go on doing your research.

Re: Another NC Confederate Button!!!

Looks like it will be pretty nice once that clay comes off. Great dig! ;D

Re: Another NC Confederate Button!!!

Nana, that is amazing!! Not one but two buttons for your collection. Most people never find a N.C. Confederate button and you have found two!! I used to hunt down around Spanish Fort AL. and a CW button was my #1 thing that I hoped for but never found one . Found a few bullets and other odds and ends but that was about it. Huge congrats on a very nice piece of our southern heritage. :)

Re: Another NC Confederate Button!!!

WTG Nana ;) would love to find one of those myself ;D

Re: Another NC Confederate Button!!!

Re: Another NC Confederate Button!!!

Congratulations on the neat finds. Wish we had some neat old civil war battlefields to hunt out in this part of the country. Your bug pin is actually a political pin. It is from 1896, when the Democrat William Jennings Bryan was taking on the Republican William McKinley. At that time, the U.S. was on the gold standard, and Bryan and the silver miners and farmers and the Democrats were attempting to get the U.S. to back her currentcy with both gold and silver, at the rate of 16 parts silver to one part gold. You could tell who a person was for, by the color of the bug that they were wearing. Gold bugs were for McKinley, and silver bugs were for Bryan. Bryan and silver lost in 1896, but eventually, the backing with both gold and silver was adopted. It is a neat campaign piece. HH

Re: Another NC Confederate Button!!!

Awesome button and that bug pin is really a nice find! I dug a campaign badge from the 1908 presidential election. It said William J. Bryan for president. He lost to Taft that year. Just so happens I was left some old photo's and stuff from a deceased relative. When I went through it I found a receipt from 1908. It was for a ten dollar donation to the campaign of Bryan. The receipt has his photo and his running mates. I am going to display them both together. Anyway congrats on the great finds. You are quite a relic hunter now!

I let it soak overnight and cleaned a bit on it again this morning. Not much change. :-\ But back into the water it went and I'll try again this evening.
