What a rollercoaster day! Started out with DiggerBug picking me up this morning. We headed out to our new hunting buddies place to check out what she had been finding on her property. Got there, hunted a few minutes, got trampled by the horse, (I'm OK..and so is the detector) ;D ,recovered quickly ;D and went to the front to hunt for a couple of lost jewelry items. Had hunted about an hour and Charlie calls and wants me to go to the dr.'s with him. :-\ So...long story short, I was feeling sorry for myself cause I had to leave and spend the rest of a perfect afternoon in the dr.'s office. Finally got home and decided to go across the road and hunt a spot that I had been working on. I had found this on an old map from the late 1800's and had spent a few minutes hunting there in September, but it was so hot then, I didn't stay long. I did find the pottery pieces and was satisfied that I had found the right spot.

The map had shown two structures and I had found the first early in the year. Lots of horseshoes and nails and that's where I had found my first NC Confederate button.

Had been there about an hour and found odds and ends, but nothing exciting. Finally got a great signal (74 on the MXT) and dug four inches. Out pops the button! It's REALLY dirty and I didn't know FOR SURE what it was, but after finding the first one, I had a feeling that I had found another. The soil here (if you can call it that) is clay. Turns everything red and doesn't want to come off easily. I probably should have waited to clean it up better before I took the pics, but I was so excited at finding it, I wanted to share. :) The next signal was a tiny back of a button and still has the shank. The rest of the hunt was the normal stuff. I feel much better now. :D

I rinsed the button with water and used a soft toothbrush for a minute. I thought it was neat to have a spot of shiny on the back!!

Hope you all have a great weekend!!! Find something good!!!

Beautiful Job and Beautiful Button Nana!!!!....Thank's for letting us see.HH!!

Beautiful pottery Nana....Dont know how I missed this post.......Great job on the button!

My God NANA! I am stunned and in shock PARALYSIS. That NC Starburst came out SOOOOOOOO freaking beautiful it hurts! I am very very happy that you found these. Jeez, I am envious (in a good way)! Good job NANA. The button exceeded my imagination in the condition that it would come out in. That "NC" SMACKS you right in the face...IT IS SOO clear and defined!! Awesome Awesome Awesome!

Nana
that is one great button since you have two you should put one back for me to find ;D. Keep up the good work.

Wow, that is amazing. I still feel bad that I didn't get to see you and Charlie at this years hunt. You can bet I will be at the next one. Conagrats on an awesome find.

Before I opened your updated post, I sat and pondered for several minutes on what the heck a "cleaner button" was...I had never heard about a button that they put down the gun barrel to clean it when it was fired... ;) But NOW I know you meant that your BUTTON was CLEANER! ;D

You did an excellent job on the button. I'm so happy that your cleaning procedures worked out so well. How's the other button in terms of condition?

Regards,

Buckleboy

Wow that is one Cool button, very pretty. BB and I went out tonight and we couldn't find our detectors with both hands if we tried let alone anything worth digging. He and I both talked about eBaying our detectors and stuff and taking up stamp collecting. We are both very discouraged right now. We can't seem to get anywhere where good stuff is to be found.

I am glad you are finding good stuff though! :)

You better not! I wanna see you two again at the next hunt! :) Keep going!

So glad you are OK Nana!! Sounds kind of scary. Dang.

Congrats on all the goodies, especially the button!!
That bee is really cool too. What is that from? Jewelry?

Smiles!
Scooby

I'm OK! ;D Not sure on the bee thing, but Nebstater says it looks like one of the old political pins.

I couldn't agree more. :P Lisa and I found a new site today that should have been full of great stuff...but..no. :-\ Not yet, anyhow! :D

I'm adding the cleaned up NC button. Could use a little more cleaning, but not today! :D

Nana :)

I had a button like that and it ended up in the trash. I was in Japan when divorced and all buttons, bullets, and everything else(non coin) I'd found in six years ended up in a trash can. I had about 30 or so nice buttons and a bucketfull of bullets!

OHHHH..that's bad, Jack!!! :'( Sorry.

;D Thanks! Mine too! :D I spent several hours picking and scrubbing all that clay off. I was worried that by the time I got done, there'd be nothing left to see but a blank disc! :D

Great finds....Nana. I remember over a year ago. You said that you would like to find some nice old stuff and look at you now. Your an expert. Your finding the good old stuff. It just takes patients and some good old research. Thats what I have been says for a long time. Glad to see your having a great time in doing it. WTG

I can't believe how fantastic those buttons cleaned up. You did a great job. I am super happy for you Nana!

Thought that you might like to see some photos of other bugs. These are all political, and primarily come from the election in 1896. Gold bugs were for "Sound Money" and McKinley, and silver bugs were for William J. Bryan and silver. Some of the bugs even carried messages on them, and there are others, that are mechanical, that when you pushed a button, the bugs wings would unfold and would reveal pictures of the candidates.

Well I be dog-gone! If that isn't a perfect match! :o Thank you so much for the pictures, Larry! If it hadn't been for you, that little bug would have just been thrown into the jar of miscellaneous collections! :P Hope you don't mind, but I copied and pasted one of the bugs on your pic to compare with the one I found.... :) Thanks again!

Looka! Same bug! Who'da thunk it? :D

Mine was a gold one too..you can still see a bit of the gold on the bottom side. Looks like I need to spend a little time cleaning this keeper! ;)
