Last week I got a 1788 Conn copper at this site and I thought that should just about do it, after hitting the site hard a couple years ago and getting eight coppers from the 1700s from it and the finds had petered out. But on Tuesday I hit the site again after a failed attempt to find another new site nearby. I got a tiny cuff button and then in a matter of a few minutes had a counterfeit KGII Half Penny and my 23rd overall NJ copper and the bonus was it was a variety I had not previously found. The two coins were within two feet of each other and within 20 feet of where I previously found the Conn, 2 NJs and a KGIII at the site.

The KGII only weighs 116 grains, andnot heavily corroded, rather smooth and for Rick in NS, it read horrible in the ground, out of the ground dirty and after cleaning, all read the same on the SE Pro, a lousy 07/24. Whereas the NJ copper came out Green and read great in the hole, the same out of the hole and the same after cleaning, a nice 03/29. Weighed in at145.3 grains. (the second number is the all important one - Conductive readng)

Woods are greening up fast now, so if I am going to hit it again this year it will have to be very soon. Now up to ten coppers at this site, all 1700s, with the newest coin being that 1788 Conn I found there last week.........

While I was on the exploratory walk, in the middle of a clearing in the thich brushy wooded pines area I found an egg laying on the ground, it was cracked on one side and exposing what looked like a baby bird in an early stage of life. No idea what type of egg, must have been dropped by a predator, no standing water within a few blocks of the site, about chicken egg size

You did well by returning to that site! The bird didn't have such a great day tho.

Awesome as usual Don! That's a lot of coppers for one site:thumbsup:

At least you know what they are. BTW... that was a nice CT! (think I forgot to go back and post on that thread)

Great finds Don! NJ's are always on my wishlist. Get out there soon because the ticks are baaad.

That's the way to keep nailing those coppers Don! Counterfeits are always cool to find.

Congrats on finding the new variety of NJ copper, that had to be a thrill. How many varieties do you now have?

Nice finds Don in SJ!

Don congrats on another great hunt. It is great to see you pull another Jersey out of the ground. You are off to a good start to the year :icon_thumleft:.

Glad to see you out there Don. Congrats on the finds! Don't you love finding those N.J. Coppers:)

Great stuff as always Don. I watched a bird of a different feather fly into a nest and knock all the eggs out of the nest to the frantic parenting birds dismay, must be a territorial thing.

Great copper and in decent shape. May have been a turkey nest on the ground. They are hatching poults right now here. Nice hunt always enjoy seeing what you found.

This morning as I watched a Turkey at my bird feeder, it finally struck me that yes, it might have been a Turkey egg, although I thought perhaps a week or two too early for here, The males are doing their strutting right now, have been for over a week or two, so it is possible, and if their eggs are white, that would be #1 answer on my list since the area is loaded with Turkey.
