Metal Detecting
I didn't have a new site to go to this morning so I decided to go back over a site that I had 'cherry picked' for silver coins a couple of weeks back; a really small front yard of a mid-fifties home. My battle plan was to dig it all! My weapon of choice today was my Whites MXT Pro with the Detech 8 x 6 inch SEF search coil attached.

I set the MXT Pro to 'relic' mode, Iron ID, Sensitivity +1 and ground balanced in the locked position. Everything above iron was giving a sweet high tone, but I didn't dig any VDI readings on targets that were less than 10 on the VDI, and really shallow targets.

About halfway through with my grid search I got a VDI reading of 22 and a depth reading of 5 inches. I'll dig that all day long if I'm searching for gold rings. I popped the plug and did a little more digging after using my Pro Pointer. Finally I saw some yellow gold peeping through the mud at the bottom of the hole; a 1945 gold class ring weighing in at 5.31 grams. Apparently they didn't put enough tape around the ring to keep it from slipping off of their finger.

I always get happy when I find gold. Just for the record, the MXT Pro hits super hard on low conductors and it's really fun to use. I looked for the small stone that was missing from the ring, but I didn't have any luck. I also found a 6 inch deep 10k R.G.P. gold watch, a skeleton key and a single wheat penny.
