I understand that a lot of guys are not interested in anything but Florida , but I think wrecks are wrecks and salvage is salvage . All wrecks should be interested to us .
The Frederik Hendrik , a Dutch East Indiaman os 1100 tons , carrying 60 bronze cannon and commanded by captain Michiel Vis , departed from the Wielingen on March the 26th 1642 and reached Batavia on January the 8th 1643 .
Eaxtly five years later , on 8 january 1648 , while sailing to Holland with a crew of 326 men and a cargo valued at over 850.000 silver Dutch Florins ( with a todate value of about 8.5 million ) , she struck a reef near the northern end of the Banka Strait , and then sank with all her cargo and treasure and over 100 passengers and her crew . This ship has never been salvaged although I have heard that there is some interest in her by some Germans . Well , they need a lot of good luck because the waters are murky because the outflow of some large rivers from the Island of Sumatra dumping into the Strait . The rewards are pretty good though .
