Another strange beach find

While detecting shallow water got a large hit. Amongst the misc coins and sinkers was this large "fishing" machete ? At least I hope the person who lost this was using it to cut bait.

Also found a small ring. Am attempting to clean. Some small markings on the inner band but haven't been able to make out. Any thoughts on how to best clean would be appreciated.

I used baking soda and it did a good job .... all metal was black when I started. A little tough to get into the crevices. Was thinking electrolysis but was a little worried it might attack the metal. Thanks for the input.

Thanks for the input on Chattel ring. Will google for info. Got this stuff in Ct. Am in Fla for 6 months in Englewood area starting mid Oct. See you on the beaches.

I just tryed electrolysis on my gold (1) silver (3) and a plat mix ring (1) finds. It came out great, i used the method chicago ron uses, he has a great how to video on Youtube. They came out GREAT!!

I thought and I am pretty sure it is called a claddagh, It's an Irish friendship ring , not sure what a "Chattel" ring is, maybe you could explain and I will learn something new.

It appears it's a claddagh ring. Not much commercial value but having grandparents Galway and Carlow counties, it has some sentimental value.

Irish Claddagh Ring. If you wear it with the heart pointing toward you it means you are taken. If you wear it with the heart pointing away from you it means you are available.
