Hi All,
No digs lately, so I stopped in an 'off the beaten path' shop.
lots of fairly interesting items, my girl picked up a small bottle of perfume with a plated crown cap, 1920s and still full (almost). Lacastillere France embossed on bottom
I've dug 2 crown caps, but much larger than this one.
I just found some info, $25 & up for these collectible bottles, paid $1 :hello2:
http://reviews.ebay.com/Vintage-La-...nt-Perfume-Bottles_W0QQugidZ10000000003871867
The best part came when I asked the grizzled proprietor if he had anything interesting items not on display, he produced a handful of flatware from which I plucked this beauty.
I researched the makers mark and find 3 silversmiths named Kimball,
2 of them started in the 1850s,
so this is probably John Kimball Boston ma, est 1774.
I just love the handwork on this probable 'One of a Kind' piece.
almost .6 troy, so nice for $10 :hello2: (I didn't even haggle)
Great Digs to all and thanks for Looking

I love the spoon. :icon_thumleft:

Hi Herbie :hello:
Great "picking" finds there buddy!
That spoon's gorgeous and the perfume bottle is very cool! :icon_thumright:

Things are pretty quiet here with almost 2' of snow on the ground, so I did some "picking" the other day when I should've been working! :laughing7: I "picked" an old painted metal Coca-Cola sign and a wooden coke crate board at the same shop for $15. I just sold them on Kijiji Toronto for $80! That'll just about pay for my Sampson Digging Shovel from Kellyco! ;D

Happy Hunting!
Dave

The engraving on the spoon adds considerable value to this piece. Anything dated is very rare. Congrats.

I remember my hunting partner dug a piece of John Kimball silverware last year. Looked to be about the same age as yours if I remember right. Very nice.

If you can't dig Herbie, shopping is OK. You made some nice finds and didn't freeze your butt off either. Nice spoon, Quindy.

Thanks All!
Good turnover on those Coke Items Dave :laughing7:
Looking for a small shadow box
for just the spoon and a sweet 1820 LC I dug last summer.
I hope to get out for a dig tomorrow morning :hello2:

Very nice find on the spoon. :icon_thumright: The antique stores were very reasonable with more than a few bargains when I went through New Hampshire and Vermont a few years back. Unfortunatly that is not the case here in the Southeast. Anyone who has anything thinks that theirs is the best and wants top dollar for it. >:( To put it into perspective they want $1 each for regular mason jars at the local thrift store.
