I have found 4 of these buttons. Three on one site, one on another. They were some distance apart. Obviously English in origin, they were found on a site known for militia drilling in the early 19th century. Anyone else finding these?

I hope some other folks have found them. It's the only patterned button I have found in quantity. All others have been different styles.

as you say no set uniform for early 1800 time frame miltia groups -- often they wore whatever they had on -- so civilian clothing was used as they drilled -- civilian buttons worn on civilian clothing lost while doing "military drills" as part of the "local miltia" -- i got no problems with that.
