Another Whatsit

I found this in a t.o.c. dump Sunday in Chester, Pa. It's a very light metal and is hollow with a pinhole along the one edge.
The inscription on the back reads:

It may be part of an old Seeley hard rubber Truss for hernia made by IB Steely & Co. you may have picked up the metal screws or bracket. Interesting medical device.

We dont have anything in the pic for size. If its that tiny, you may be correct. A truss would be larger.

Even without a size reference, I would put my money on a truss. I.B. Seeley & Co. is listed in the 1896 Medical World at 25 South Eleventh Street in Philadelphia and says you can send for a free catalogue of trusses. http://books.google.com/books?id=Pc...sKjfCQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=3&ct=result

Sorry about the lack of reference. I didn't dig any pennies in the dump....

It's about 2 and 1/2 inches long and about 1 and 1/2 inches at the widest point
