At the company picnic watermelon eating contest this young lady started choking. I had just finished my Red Cross training a few months before. Everyone around seemed not too notice, as the competition was pretty fierce ::) , even her own Dad was across the table and looking straight at her, and didn't seem to notice. She had swallowed a piece down the wrong pipe, and a pretty good hunk, too. I popped it out using the Heimlich, and walked her over away from the crowd so she could get some air. She was fine, thank goodness.

She was just scared, not hurt as it had come out before she even passed out or anything. The next day her Dad came over to me at work and thanked me for saving her life.... I dunno about that, but I gave him a big ol' You're Welcome, anyways.

A man of action, got to love it! I would imagine that you felt a bit mentally exhausted but pleased after that ordeal. Awesome post, thank you! Definitely inspirational Jeffro!!
You're a hero!

Well I let my neighbors live to see another day...sure their family really appreciates it :)

Kidding kidding,
Seriously, I do a lot of nice things for people. Been helping my father lately get some things in order.
I'm the random guy holding the door open for you at stores and restaurants.

The random guy that holds the door is becoming mighty scarce.
Thank you for being a gentleman, I always notice, and appreciate that simple kindness.

I think that most people dont ever think about if they are doing a good deed or not....its just a way of life for most of us to help others when we can.You never stop and think about it before hand and you definately arent in it for the glory or the recognition. So to toot your own horn about it is difficult. So I would like to toot my daughters horns for them!
Cheyenne and Mariah both recieved Outstanding Leadership Awards this year from school . Proud mama I am !
The last week of school involved many activities for the kids that involved walking or riding bike. One of Cheyennes classmates had her leg in a cast and Cheyenne decided that she didnt want her to miss out on any the fun stuff. So every morning for the past week Cheyenne got up early, hooked a cart to her bike and went and picked the classmate up. She rode her to school and back this way ( two miles ) and hauled her around to all the activities throughout the day. They went to McDonalds , a park ,etc ....all the time with Cheyenne pulling her little friend in the cart. Very cool that she would take this upon herself to do!

What a wonderful thread full of wonderful people (mostly, ::)). Gypsy's right though, most of us don't even think about what we're doing. We just do it. Before I ever got into looking (and finding) anything, I would go out in my cheep-o bubble of a kayak, and paddle up and down the river I live on-- determined to scoop up and bag as much trash as I could safely hold or strap to my wee boat. I just can't stand trash lying around obstructing the view of the beautiful world. Can't understand how anyone can just toss trash out of a boat-- or worse, dump it over the bank! And I mean recently, not long ago when it was much more commonplace. So... there's that. Less fishing line and plastic bags-- deadly to many water and marsh creatures. Thus began my ever-growing collection of fishing lures and bobbers.

However... I think one of the best things I ever did, again, without thinking much about it, was years ago. I've been working in kitchens and restaurants for more than 25 years, and it's pretty typical that dishwashers, bussers and prep-people are down on their luck. I'd often get staff like that from the Salvation Army. One guy (I don't remember his name) applied- and got the dish+prep job. Choices were few and I thought what the heck... I noticed, however, that his application was...shall we say...brief- and that his name was almost illegible. Now I don't care anout penmanship, but I care whether someone can follow directions, and when ketchup ended up in a big batch of chili instead of tomatoes, I asked him about his reading skills- privately, next to the dumpster (my office). He said he could get by- by looking at the pictures on the cans. I pointed out that it wasn't really working very well- and explained his mistake. I asked- very politely- it's a touchy subject and personal with him being over 40 years old- if he would like to learn to read. He said he would. So I commenced teaching the fine art of discerning the written word. He did VERY well. Raises were due, and he eventually worked his way out of the Sal. Army and into a rental place he could call home.

I smiled today.

It is a proven fact that when people see someone else smiling, it makes them smile too.

When you smile, it realeases chmicals in your body making you feel better. Even if you are feeling really horrible, if you see someone else smile, you might smile too, and if you smile, then you will soon began to feel better.

OK... I get to post a good deed that I did today. No big deal really but I stopped my work project outside on my house and took the time to help someone out today.

We have a community mailbox area and when I went to get my mail, one of the neighbor ladies, a single mother was there getting hers too. She asked me if I knew anthing about water. It was kind of a confusing question but I smiled and asked her "what's going on, do you have a problem." Every since last night when her kids took a long shower and used up all the hot water, she has had no hot water. I asked her if she wanted me to take a look. She said yes. I asked her a few more questions ans she also said she had a new hot water heater installed last fall. After taking my mail home, I gather some tools up, thinking her pilot light might have went out and went over there.

It was kind of pain to get into the area the hot water tank was in but we got in there. No water leaking...good and investigating, yep, no pilot light on. I lit it up for her and the water heater fired up like it should. She was really happy and I was too, easy pickins!

I noticed two furnace filters in sitting there so I asked her if she wanted me to out those in for her too while I wa there. We vacumned up the inside around the blower motor while we were in there and installed the filters. She had the A/C running and it felt good, nice and cool while we were working.

I came home after that and cleaned up my project outside. quit for the day and got my kids some dimmer. After that, I rewarded myself with a short evening hunt at the high school football field, which I noticed this afternoon was being plowed up completely and re-done. While hunting, I found a 10kt high school class ring. It's been 23 years since I found a class ring. I found several back in the 1980's at a site that produced over 300 keeper rings for me and returned several of them too. So it looks like I have another good deep to do, find the owner of this ring and return it.

Thanks for reading! HH!
