Antique Cannon (Estate Sale find)

I stand corrected, I researched some history on cannon manufacture around the civil war and was amazed to discover that cannon were indeed made of cast iron.

it’s OK to be wrong....as long as you own it

They are indeed beauties. Thank you for sharing them with us.

Someone needs a hug, it seems like he's a bit edgy. I'm the first in the thread to be called an idiot for being correct on all counts. I'm not crying about it, but three pages of angst latter we still have to endure the thrashing emotional dreck of mine is bigger.

This site needs more fun and enjoyment of our hobbies and less ego validation.

Of course historically cannon were not made in two-part moulds; they were made in one-part moulds. You can see 18th century paintings of them here: https://janverbruggen.com/the-foundry-drawings-2/

And cannon were made from wrought iron, cast iron or bronze. Sometimes using more than one of those materials. It's quite complicated.

Your link is to SOME of those drawings... the one I THINK you are referring to shows the bore process.

IF you arerefering to me... heh

First off no one called anyone an idiot... secondly no one even refered to YOUR post,

And if "edgy" applies to being hungover... then guilty as charged... deal with it,

PS... change your settings so you SEE ONE page. heh

Confucius say... Never mix three alcohol's with three women and expect not be a bit edgy the next day... even if it was a really good time.

and show me where the two part mould is in the engraving you have just posted?
