My father got an Ace 250 last year has his first machine. To say the least he has been very fustrated with it. I have tried to help him, but the machine is nothing like my Whites IDX Pro. I took it out one day to see if i could master it and help him, however i had the same problems has him. For one im not sure what mode to use where. Another issue he and i both have noticed is the tones that come up when an item is hit. It seems like the tones are not as cut and dry as my machine, it almost lags when you hear the tone, this brings me to the biggest of our issues. Pinpointing. he cant seem to pinpoint with this thing worth a damn. And im not saying im an expert, but even my experiece does not help with pinpointing with this thing. It takes about 2 min to get the target somewhat under the coil, at which time im reaching for my IDx cuz i have no more patiance. Any helpful hints has to what he, and i are doing wrong???

I'm sorry, i thought my "read the manual and follow the directions for the ACE 250" was a great pointer, I'm sorry I offended you. I own the Ace 250 and have had a ball with it. I intended on using it as a threshhold machine toward a Whites or Minelab but it ended up being everything I wanted. So I' for some well intended albeit ill conceived reason tend to get "ired" when someone speaks even a "little" negative about my detector.

Please except my heartfelt apology,

no prob. I understand , i just needed some pointers to give to my dad. And everyones advise worked for him. It was much easier for him to pinpoint, and he had a good time even though he didnt dig anything amazing. the main thing was he is begining to understand his machine better. thanks everyone

I feel your pain. I have have an Ace 250 for 6 months now and I thought it was me. I even bought the 9x12" coil. I have now went back to my Old Garrett groundhog. Your pin point will be under the little u shape on your coil. Also when you pass over a target once and get a signal but on the second pass you don't. Its junk. Don't dig it. Another problem that I had was the Ace 250 will tell me the target is a dime "lets say" then half way through digging the hole it will tell me its a pull tab. The best mode I used was the custom mode. I took some pop tops, foil, bottle caps, etc. and bench tested with them. The notches that matched the junk, I eliminated. Im sure that there are some people on this site that are awesome with the Ace 250 but as for me. Mine is for sale on ebay right now. If I didn't sell it I would have wrapped it around a tree soon. The couple of pointers that I just gave you did give me a better experience with it than I was having. Good luck. Johnny

Quiter! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Believe it or not, I had XLT for awhile and went back to IDX, 'cause I understand that machine in such a deep way. With other machines I always worried when leaving a site "Did I miss something." With IDX I just don't have that worry. If I go to a site and find nothing, it simply means I didn't pass my coil over anything good...if there's any fault for missing stuff, it's MINE not the hardware. I got there through uncountable hours of practice. Are there better machines than IDX (insert or your brand/model here)? Probably. Is there any subsititute for the thousands and thousands of holes I've dug? Probably not. Know thy machine....

Hey Brother,

First off make sure the sensetivity is around 4. Depending on what and the area ur detecting in depends on trash and big items that might be interfering with the ACE. The ACE is a touchy machine, which is good and bad, u can swing pretty quick and get some great deep signals for the money you pay for it. The ACE pinpoint is really all that hard, and again from your description it sounds like the sens is to high. Honestly I dont even use the pinpoint now, but to make it work hit the signal, then repeatedly scan the signal until your getting a constant beep, if you are not getting a constant beep it is because 1. It's trash you discriminated out or 2. I'ts a deep item, which I then take a little dirt off the top and scan again, or stomp on the ground directly above the target or change ur scanning direction, sorta circling the signal like its ur prey while still scanning it. If you dont get a clear sig after that, chances are its junk. Ok, discrim. Just depends on what you want there sir. The ACE is very good about silver and gold, which is what all of us want I think! Anyway ur average 10,14 and 18k will be in the 5cent and pulltab signal range DO NOT DISCRIMINATE PULLTABS!!!!! 90% OF MY 14K HAVE ALL READ PULLTAB! 24k and silver will be under the 10cent and silver range YES I SAID 24K MEANING GOLD! YES SILVER RANGE! Ok, what else. The ace is awesome IDing foil, so if it says its foil on the machine its 99% going to be foil. I recommend after hunting saving the items and going through them again and checking the ID, experiment a bit, trying breaking a pulltab in half and seeing what it reads! Youll be suprised. All these little tips can help you alot with ace. You can also check out my vids on youtube under CRACKBADGER do a search and ull see them. If you got anymore ?s I know I can answer them for you about the ACE, just PM me.

One more thing when ur pinpointing try letting go of the pinpoint while over the target, scan again, and tehn pinpoint again. The button is touchy sometimes. O buy the way the the 9x12 coil reads some items differently!

Hey, good luck and GOD bless!
