Any ideas how this may have happened?

I know it’s probably not a mint error, but was curious on how this could have happened.

Possibly excessive wear from being carried in a pants pocket for many years or smashed between two pieces of metal in a vise.

I have seen Morgan Silver Dollars that were carried so long as a lucky piece that the only way you could tell it was a Silver Dollar was because it was Silver, meaning it met the ring test and because it had reeding on the edge.

Not sure why die adjustment strike couldn't be the reason.....here are a couple examples.....don't these look just like "lucky charms"?....please enlighten me as to the differences you see between the Ike and these 2 slabbed errors.....

When I was growing up, the nice gentleman who ran our local grocery store showed me a silver dollar he'd carried since he was a kid. His father had given it to him to cheer him up when his dog died. It was worn completely smooth. This was decades ago, so I don't recall what the rim looked like but I think that explanation makes a great deal of sense.

IMHO: It was a persons "lucky" coin or a "worry" coin you would rub to relieve stress.

I found a similar coin in a creek with running water. The bottom side was almost smooth. I figured it had been sliding around on the abrasive surface it was lying on. Just a guess................Daniel
