I found this today, among other things, by the river. It was about 30 yds from the river and about 3"-4" deep in an area that has recently flooded. Any ideas what it is?
As you can see one side is flat and there is a line that goes around almost touching the flat side on either end. I know ti looks l ike a fishing weight but I'm just not so sure it is. Besides, those kinds of fishing weights usually have two little fins where this one is flat.

Anyway I just wanted to make sure before I got rid of it. Any help is much appreciated!

the line does. kind of a notch half way around. anyway it is in the middle. But if it's a fishing weight how would you open it back up?

It's a split-shot. They came with that slot open. You'd stick your line in there and sqeeze it closed with pliers. Thet weren't meant to be re-used.
