Found at 1870's home site, inside of big hole is threaded, small hole is half square half round. Appears to be nickel plated.

Looks similar but I think it's too small for these uses. Also the outside is knurled as if it was meant to be turned. Looks more precision made like a pocket watch part. Thanks for your thoughts.

I think you're on to something like a dead bolt for a real old lock instead of a key to activate it. Marking it solved.

My guess it's a broken moto meter....similar to these....for a really small radiator

It does look like it but it would have to be really small.
