Anybody else waiting on the tobacco fields to be cleared?

Usually, I have already hunted my fields twice by now after the harvest. This year, the tobacco is still in the fields turning yellow. The problem is the farmers in Central Ky are having a hard time finding help to cut and house their tobacco crops. There are a few fields that have been cut, but for the most part, the tobacco is still standing here in Ky. Until recently, you could drive through the town squares and see man migrant workers just waiting to be picked up and taken to the fields to work. Now, there are no workers waiting anywhere. My buddy is frustrated because the tobacco is basically turning yellow and drying out in the fields, which is not good.

Migrant workers have been leaving a lot of areas for the more lucrative trades. Sheet rock.framing,tile and so forth. Any chance of hiring any american workers ? Got to be a way to get that crop in

Same here in NC...seems the migrant workers were one step ahead of the Dems in DC. They knew there was no demand for their labor and have fled to greener pasture hopefully south of the border. There is almost no new construction going on and the only farm work is tractor driving baling hay or cutting corn...then the soybeans were drilled in and NO till being done

Yup, the tobacco here is turning yellow. This is my first year in Kentucky so I thought it was all part of the normal tobacco growing process. Is it that the farmers don't want to hire Americans because they cost more?

I saw one lone Hispanic guy yesterday and today, cutting a big field of tobacco all by himself. You have to admire that kind of determination

They can't get any Americans to do it either. It seems these people either already have other jobs or they are on the draw and are making as much money sitting on their rear ends. You would think that there would be lots of guys lining up to work given our current economic situation.
