And thrown in the lake. Was out with two friends Monday, when I dig up "the box".
I excitedly rush over to one of my buddies and he say's oh S-it! We walk up to the dry sand to meet our friend and open it together.
When the afternoon sun hit the stones in the box we all gasped! I did get a couple of you suck! acknowledgements for the find.
upon further examination the ring is marked 925 and the stones are CZ's.
Still a very fun and unusual find.

Someone really got burnt bad... like something I would do, minus the CZs... I feel bad for the story that unfolded for that to end up on the bottom. :-\ But I understand....

Gives a whole new meaning to the term "dumped." The guy said some magic words over the ring, attached the box to a rock and heaved it into the lake. The unlucky treasure hunter who finds it and exposes it to the light of day will forever be unlucky at love. Am I right?? hehehe

Now that you know it's sterling and the stones are cz, throw it back and maybe you'll catch a bigger one.

That's a pretty cool find Ron!
Love the 18K ring you found, big congrats on that goldie!

Actually, since you asked, I did have a similar find last spring at a beach. I found 4 different ring boxes (the first one was the most exciting sort of what you went through), they were buried about 6 inches in the beach sand and each one contained a large gold coin. Unfortunately, they were the chocolate candy variety of gold coins ...lol and man were they moldy. I guess these were buried in a penny scramble for a 4th of July party kids game or something. The first one sure set my heart to beating though. :)

Smiles!

That's one of those things that has to be done in front of the boyfriend for it to get the full effect. Show him the rings in the box, wrap the duct tape around it and the ballast, say a few choice words and fling it in the water. Turn around at that point and show the boyfriend you can count to "1" using a finger other than the index, and stomp off.
Think that about sums it up?

Nice find,

Yeah, I agree with you. I think she showed him good. My dad and I were asked to look for an engagement ring on top of the mall roof where we worked. We searched for days and never found it. She had thrown it up there (about 20 feet high) because she was mad at her soon to be. My dad just happened up on it one day a few years later and we couldn't find the girl again.

Very nice finds there. Way to go!

The only way for your find to be better is the receipt for them too...

The only three reasons I can think of to sink jewelry like that are: anger, fear or guilt. Or some combination of all three.

Mad at someone.

Rings carry a curse. Like self-aware ventriloquist dummies or dolls, tribal masks, etc. Happens all the time according to Hollywood. Or something bad happened and the tosser associated with the jewelry and thought/hoped tossing them would change the streak.

Fear of being found out (i.e.: jewelry stolen, maybe as a youth and now feeling the guilt).

The act of boxing, wrapping, adding weight signifies someone was doing this with great contemplation and trying to be rid of more than just the jewelry. They were packaging up bad memories or thoughts along with the hardware.

Wow Ron, thats some real pirate treasure, or the guy that gave it to her was a real jerk...

Keep safe...
