Anyone ever seen a ring like this???

Found on what was an early 1800s farm...I have no idea if it may be civil war or what.

Very nice find. It resembles a school ring very much with the stone missing. I know that the military also has these type of class rings. Great find

As a matter of fact I do....Looking at the ring under high magnification shows a lot of cracks. It is unlike any of the others I have found.

Borders of 13 stars have often been used with U.S. military insignia, recalling the original 13 colonies. For example, most of the more recent Navy buttons have 13-star borders.

Cool PBK, I appreciate any input I can get. All I know is that is seems to be a pretty cool old ring and I wear it without the stone. The wear on the ring is pretty amazing in and of itself and lends a lot of character to it. Maybe I will get a stone for it and keep it on my finger until its REALLY old. LOL

Oh another question. Would a ring from the 50's say .925?

Most U.S. made rings of that era would be marked "Sterling" rather than simply ".925," a mark more commonly seen on silver rings of foreign manufacture. But then again, a lot of the military and sweetheart jewelry bought by GI's serving overseas was also made there.

I was hoping it was a ring of civil war era, but I guess it is just a very well worn ring of the James Dean era....dagnabbit. It just LOOKS old, but I can relate to that!

Hey Nashoba go back to the plug hole and see if you can find the stone or the small shield that may have went on it.Good possibility its there !

a good jeweler should be able to put a new bezel on the ring
and set a stone of your choice.
If there are lots of little cracks in the metal, that is called work hardening,
and happens to gold and silver when worn hard, and makes the ring brittle.
