Anyone have knowledge of Matchbox cars?

I found this out in the woods at a house foundation. All the coins we found there were 1940's or older and then I pop this out. Any idea of age? It's just the bottom of a match box car with the front wheels.

Found these on ebay.

Just as a start check out the wiki entry - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matchbox_(brand)
And what it would have looked like whole - http://shop.ebay.co.uk/sis.html?_nkw=MATCHBOX+SERIES+No+8+FORD+MUSTANG+EXCELLENT+IN+BOX (I'm a couple of seconds slow)

Awesome, thank you. The "Lesney" threw me off.
