Anyone have tips on Bounty Hunter IV

I just started detecting last weekend and went to a local park in Euless, TX. I found a few pennies, but lots of aluminum cans, tops etc. Before I left the house, I tested it using a penny, nickle, dime, quarter, nail, and my gold wedding ring so I could get the hang of the different tones. When I got to the park I got several solid low tones and dug until I found a pop top to a soda can....it sounded almost exactly like my gold wedding ring. Then later I got a solid high tone....I surely thought it must be a quarter....only to find a whole beer can about 7 inches down. Anyone have any tips on how to distinguish between gold and aluminum?

well for cans, you can start lifting you coil of the ground, the sound will drop of a lot slower than a coin or ring
