anyone into old dirt bikes

I just picked up a blast from the past a 1979 Yamaha YZ 250....needs a little TLC but she runs good ,now if I could just remember the right fuel mixture ratio,lol forgot how fast these bikes where .

Wow. good find. You know, something I used to do when I was young is find people that had bought there kid a dirt bike and it would sit in their garage. Next summer, it was dead (carbs all gummed up). So, I'd either get it for free or for a song and dance. I'd clean it up and away it went.

Now, all I do is wait for "bulk collection day" (where the city comes once a year to pick up your old refrigerators, washing machines, or any other junk that litters your back yard). People will put their lawn mower away for the winter, and it never fails, next bulk collection day, my neighborhood is littered with brand new mowers only a year old. I fix them up, and give them to my friends (and keep the best one for myself -always trading up).

Had a friend of mine the other day buy a Bulltaco,remember them?,he picked it up for less than $500.00,and it still runs.

Tank Most of the oils today are better than when the bike was made . I use Shindaiwa One 2-cycle engine oil in my 88 yammaha 250, at a 50 to 1 mixture . Yea they are fast
