Some sort of Censor (spelling?). You know, the things priests swing with burning incense in church?

Could be a censer, I cannot find anything of the sorts on Google. The weighted strap was definitely for laying this over something so bowl would be upright...so a censer makes sense!

I noticed this was your very first post - so, Welcome Aboard Billy! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forums: Select Your Area.... and selecting location information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country). You might also consider adding your state (or country) to your displayed profile (SETTINGS -> EDIT PROFILE) so if you ask a question, etc. - people may have more success helping you (your location may help, etc.)...

There is a rivet that holds the bowl and on back the rivet or fastener it says "Carr East Co." I found one thing about Carr East co, and it was someone else asking about a gun holster that had this same rivet or fastener on it.

There is or was a Carr East Company in Boston in the early part of the 1900's I believe. They made grommets and fasteners and such and have several patents regarding them. Interesting piece.
