anything in or around mannington, marion county

Have relatives in mannington, wv in marion county and i travel down that way a few times per year. i would like to know of any good places to check out if anyone knows to coin shoot and if there are any stories about this area of west virginia that might be worth looking into. thanks

I'm origanally from the area, just south of there, Farmington.

We used to go to a Drive In Theater in Mannington. It was just off of US250 on the south end of town. Also, they used to have (may still have) a fairgrounds. I don't know exactly where that was. I saw Tex Ritter there as a kid and met his son, John Ritter. He was a kid, also, just older than me.

They have consolidated the schools in Marion County. All of the little towns had their own school at one time. You may want to research that, also.

The area hasn't grown too much. The local economy was based on coal mining, and that has since been reduced to almost nothing.
