Here's a recipe I use to make apple pie from fresh apples. These came from my Mother's back yard but she couldn't remember what kind Dad said they were.
Servings: 6
Preparation Time: 30 minutes
Start to finish: 1 hour 20 minutes
Notes:
1. Splenda sugar and brown sugar can be used for those with diabetes.
2. Pastry made from scratch makes a better pie. (I use lard)
3. Using 10 apples allows the pie to be piled high.
4. This recipe is for a 9-inch pie.
5. I personally think the pie tastes better with apples fresh from the tree.
Serving Ideas: Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or a thick slice of cheddar cheese.

10 Apples , Peeled, cored, and diced
3/4 Cup Sugar
3/4 Cup Brown sugar
2 Tablespoons All-purpose flour
1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
1 Dash Nutmeg
2 Frozen pastry (Deep dish)*
4 Tablespoons Butter
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Combine sugar, brown sugar, and spices; mix with apples. (If apples are not tart, add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice).
* Recipe for a 9-inch pie.
Fill one pastry shell with apple mixture; dot with butter slices.
Carefully place second pastry shell on top; seal edges and cut slits or poke with fork to release steam.
Spread top pastry with 1 tablespoon of melted butter and sprinkle with sugar.
Bake at 400 degrees for 50 minutes; or until done.
