Spent a couple hours yesterday afternoon trying to finish off April with a good coin or two or nice relic. Neither materialized but at least got a broken old key, 4 buttons, of which one is pewter and the others late 1790's to early 1800's, the thimble, common buckle, a few whatisits, and the thing that looks like a nut, not sure what it was, it is hand made by looking at the sides and dimensions, no threads.
The black rock, not sure, it is not native to the area, light, but surprised me when it was in the dirt pile as I was digging a reading. I see no evidence of flaking on it, so I hesitate to say Indian related. Just don't know on this one, I will let my son try and figure this one out. :)

Pretty cool finds and nice just to be out hunting.....is that top item a handle?

Nice buttons, Don! That isn't a Native American artifact. It looks to be a rock.

Keep sweeping the ground of Jersey!

That's a nice group of relics. I don't find treasure that much when I detect, but those interesting knick-knacks are fun to find. It's just nice to get outsideinto the fresh air and have some fun.

Nice artifacts Don. I've been coinless on my last three hunts. Looks like an old spot you are hunting.

Hey Don,
Some nice finds anyways. Is that nut piece one of those trade weights?

Gypsy,
Dont want to steal the thunder but the top item is whats left of an old key. The "ring/handle" part is broken/missing.

Those are some nice relics, Don!

What time frame do you put pewter buttons in?

Some are from mid 1700's on this site and some from around 1800, the site was first occupied in mid 1700's and we believe the family and son's stayed on the land till early mid 1800's, the range of the relics is from that time frame. Coins have ranged from 1650's to an fattie Indian head penny. Most artifacts appear to be early 1800.

Neil, the most common button found at this site so far appears to be Tombacs.

That old skeleton key is great. What a neat assortment of finds. Are you going to clean up the buttons and show us? Great day Don!

Nice finds. I like the old key.

After doing some further research, your key looks to be from the late 1800s or early 1900s.

It is still a great find! You are due for a Liberty Cap! :tongue3: :D
