Are there any key Ike dates?

Got a bag of 74 ikes from a bank today. Are there any key dates to look for or are the all worth $1?


Just searched the bag and first off the bag was marked $74 and she charged me $74. There was 75 SCORE!!

A free $1. YAY

All I can find on line about any of the coins in the bag is that 1974-d is a wrong mint. It should have been a P. I found 1 1974-D and a bunch of 74s with no mint.

Any clue what it's worth? I'd imagine not much.

The "S" mint mark ones contain 40% silver. The 1977 and 1978's are the ones you should keep if they are in nice condition. There are also some other "TYPES" that are worth money, but I'm not sure which 1972's they mean. Look it up in a coin book.

There are a bunch of dates in the bag.

Found 1-1978-d and a bunch of 71, 71-d 72, 72-d 74, and only 1-1974-d

valueincoins.com says some of them are worth 1.15. Not worth the time to sell them. I'll just cash them in and buy more halves lol.

1973 and 1973 D are keys due to their very low mintage.

The 1972-P Type 2 is really the most valuable Ike I believe (AU or better). Look at the earth globe on the reverse. Find Florida on the globe and look for the Caribbean islands below Florida. If you cant see any clearly identifiable islands then you have a Type 2.

I personally put away about 50 of them, just to collect.. I just like them because they arent the easiest to find for most people

Oh well... Now I have something to look for if I find more Ikes.

An ebay search revealed AU+ Type 2s going for between $40 to over $100. I have yet to find one in the wild. I have an entire roll of Type 3s but those are only worth a slight premium over Type 1s.

I picked up $200 in $20 hand rolls yesterday. When I had asked the teller for halves, she said she just had large dollar coins, so I thought it was worth a shot. Out of the 200 coins, I found my first silver Ike, a 1971S, very lightly-struck! So much so that it may qualify as an error as well. With the silver edge, it stuck out like a sore thumb among the clad. The bank had an additional $600 on hand in the same rolls, so I believe it may be worthwhile to go back and get them. Will post an update.

Yes, I had initially picked up the $200 worth and found the 1971S 40%er. I then went back on Thursday and bought the rest of them, $600 in the same rolls. No further luck! This week I find myself paying for my coffee, lunch, and gas in my truck with Ikes! And for the next few weeks, too, from the looks of things......
