I'm with Sherm.I can also remember Hudson's,Kaiser-Frazier cars,I've ridden in rumble seats,bought and played 78rpm records,listened all the way across country to Del Rio and Wheeling WV am stations all night,Sugar and flour in cloth bags,listened to the radio on Dec 7th,1941 and too many other things to list here.

I remember when you could drive into a "SERVICE STATION" and some guys would pump your gas, wash your windshield, check your oil and water, check and top-off the electrolite in your battery, check your tire air pressure, sweep out your floors and give you a free road map. Gas was 21 cents a gallon.

Progress isn't all good.

does anybody remember a case of beer for 2.75 with returnable bottles or store signs that used flash pieces of metal nailed to a board that waved in the breeze to get your attention

Never put a potato in an exhaust pipe,but we did put a sparkplug in there and you would certainly get a flame,almost singed my DA.And we also use to put moth balls in the gas tank.Yeah,I remember low gas prices.Ethyl and regular was all they had and I have bought it for .08 a gal during one of the price wars.Sold many 10cent stamps to fill a War Savings Bond book,collected newspapers,tinfoil.Were mad when they came out with their black synthetic rubber innertubes.The old red rubber ones we collected from behind the filling stations worked best in the slingshots.Another chore of mine was to put the ice card out so the iceman would know if we wanted a 15 or 25 lb chunk that day.I remember the air raid warden coming to check that we had the lights out during a blackout drill.And made many a item out of the wooden orange crates.Those 78 rpm records I had were played on a windup victrola.BTW,some of you may not realize it,but if you add 45 and 33 you get 78.Several turntables that play both,you can push both buttons at the same time for 45 and 33 and you can play 78's.Not all,but some.And if you drop a piece of chaulk into the ink bottle,your teacher's fountain pen will crumble in their hand in a couple of days(makes a acid).Use to get neat wooden planes in a box of Kellog's PEP cereal.

I used to be on of them thar fellers that pumped the gas, washed the winders and aired up the tires for customers.
Im older than antique dirt and damned proud of it.
