Let me start by saying I'm not some prepper nut and only bought a few mask back in February anticipating the virus making its way to the U.S. and had travel plans to Utah on a plane. Having spent the last 30+ years as a medic and FF I know how to use PPE, I also know that Hospitals, Fire Departments and ambulances didn't have an abundance of those type supplies for various reasons including cost, shelf life, and typical low needs. I told close family members a month ago that with the spread rate and the govt stance on the public not needing mask that the supplies had to be low all over the country and they did not want to create a panic rush to purchase. The recent MIT study shows possible airborne spread up to 27ft and now the govt is saying that normal breathing and talking can spread it. Today the govt suggested the use of homemade bandana style mask, this is designed to appease the public again, typical homemade bandana style will not prevent true penetration of the particles. If anyone decides to go shopping around other people and not wear a real mask its a huge gamble. No matter everyone be safe

Good point ! I would recommend at least a dust filter mask to be worn underneath the bandana.
That is, if you can even find one of those nowadays.

Pretty sure this DIY mask is a hoax.............

Probably needs updating to include the C-virus.
Still likely better than nothing.
I know I would keep my distance away from him.

I have been wearing gloves but yeah, on my next shopping trip I will wear a mask. I have a N95 that I bought to sand my porch last spring that I will probably wear. Also have a bunch of painters mask from various projects that will probably do. I have also been sewing some cloth masks for family.

First trip to store with mask, yesterday.
What happens?
I get in checkout line, staying a safe distance from the person in front of me.
Some idiot comes up and stands right behind me, coughing and wheezing.
I tell him to back up, he looks at me like I'm speaking chinese and doesn't move.
I tell him if he stays within my reach I'm going to put him to sleep and he may or may not wake up.
At that point he decided to find another line.
There's too many idiots out there.

People who feel it's their personal right not to wear a mask, are putting themselves and their family at risk.
Some people feel their personal rights trump common sense and the safety of other people.
To those, thank you for your selfishness and narcissism.

Bravo!! :hello2:

I live in a very rural area with only about 10k people in the entire county.

Took Mom for groceries yesterday - NO ONE wearing masks, heard no coughing.

The only thing different I noticed was that an employee was wiping down the cart handles with a disinfectant....

hopefully still the same here as it was last time.
I'm expecting my sister and brother-in-law to take me shopping thursday.

the butcher shop is tiny.

I was told last monday when the workers showed up for the day,
there was a very long line waiting, and people from out of the area were buying $800. & $400. Orders
and everyone was packed in like sardines.

"packed in like sardines"..........

That's a bit much for my taste..... I don't like to be packed in at any time, much less at "this time".....

yea apparently greed and desperation are doing funny things.

I'm Hoping They are at Least only allowing 1 Per Attendant at a time in Thursday.

They have another Shop at The Farmers Market in orwigsburg.

but I Think they only Man that one on Saturdays & Sundays.

I'd imagine the Farmers Market People Have no Fear either

Still here; 15 days in near total iso.
Don.......

Two weeks except for groceries yesterday... Hope that trip didn't infect Mom = me, I'm not worried about anything

I have noticed the Freedom of Metal Detecting parks....My coin count is up...in my community the parks are abandoned....all playgrounds are wrapped in yellow (like a crime scene}. A occasional walker stays 20yards away! Most coins I am digging are pre-corona "in the ground", I assume no attachment of the virus to the coins! The 6 foot rule effectively applied...On the sidewalks... People look, smile and cross over into the other side safety zone!

The countries with the lowest level of infected people wore masks from the beginning, then again they tested and quarantined the most people as well. That is a whole nother story.

We have a young fella in Walmart electronics dept, he always wore a mask(for years).
One day I asked him why he wears those mask, come to find out,
he's a transplant recipient, takes lifetime anti-rejection meds,
I don't think, he's been worried about spreading his "transplant",
as the reason he wears a mask. just saying....

I have 4 masks, luckily friend gave them to me a few months back,
to wear when cleaning(heavy chemicals in cleaners, not good to breathe).
I wore one in W other day, my transplant friend wasn't at work,
I kinda doubt he's going out.
When return to car, take mask off, leave in trunk, sanitize/wash hands.
Once home, I spray the outside of mask first with some Lysol, then
stretch it over a slatted chair back, allow the UV sun rays, to help kill virus.
Few hours later, turn over, repeat. Sunlight can be excellent disinfectant.

You can make masks outta bandanas, strips of cloth, fabric, old clothes, etc...
Like with a bandana, lay it flat, and fold it over each other 3 layers(2 folds).
Put rubber bands, hair scrunchies, string(?), whatever, over each end,
then fold them ends, inward. Grab the rubber bands, put on face,
secure behind ears. May take adjusting. Can also put coffee filter over outer, for more protection.
NEVER touch your hands to the outside of mask, when out, if can help it.
Consider that side, the possible dirty side. If you got glasses, safety goggles,
I'd say, even better.

The hubby keeps telling me to get the respirators out...
wear one to the store...
I hope it ain't coming to that....
