Hi all,
My best freind and huntin buddy had his house broke into and the theives made off with every artifact he had found in the last 30 years.Man that makes me so sick. This is the same guy who lived on the logging site where I found all the hardstone last year.I,d have to kill a man if I caught them.He had no insurance on them either. I,m going to keep my ear to the ground and hope I can find them.I,ve been nervous about my stuff since.

I hate a thief. Sorry to hear about that. Things like that cannot be replaced.

Nothing worse than a thief! Good luck guys. Hopefully the crooks will start showing off the stolen artifacts and so they can be recovered. If only we lived by Hamurabi's code.

keep an eye on ebay too... am serious... what a jerk..and frankly, I wouldnt want to be in his shoes at all..talk about bad karma... maybe the jerk will get haunted by a few of those stolen items...it would be poetic justice...infact, I would do a prayer or whatever you wanna call it and ask the indian gods to help get em back.. ya never know ... either way... I certainly would keep my eyes out locally, listen at the local bars.. pawn shops...ebay... and ask the cops too if anyone else has had stolen artifacts taken before or recently... for your friend I am truly sorry...for the robber, well, karma will kick his azz big time and again, I sure as heck wouldnt wanna be in his shoes.... please keep us posted... again, I am truly so very sorry..

That makes me sick!!! As I am so new to this, I have been debating about putting my arrowheads in my gun safe or displaying them. How sad that we even have to think about that. The more I learn about people... the more I love my dog! Very sorry to hear that sad news.

same thing happened to me years back. sucks the life right out of you! thats why everything should be documented and photograghed. sorry man!

You know I wouldn't have a problem shooting the thieves without even asking why....I think they call that justifiable homicide...Steve

That is rediculous. I despise thieves. For me, they're somewhere between a cockroach and that white stuff that accumulates at the corners of your mouth when you're really thirsty. Yes keep an eye on Ebay, at local pawn shops and/or Antique shops. Best of luck!

Roughly where this happen?! Get as much publicity as you (or your friend) can get. That absolutely sucks!
Best wishes that they turn up. Did any shady characters know that he had amassed a grand collection? Any other details of this robbery?

Hey Jeff. Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend's artifacts. The low-lifes who stole them will probably try to unload them as soon as possible for a quick buck. I would watch E-Bay closely. As others have said, get the word out. Publicity is the best weapon against them. Hopefully, someone could turn the jerks in. That just burns me up!

Good luck to you and your friend.

Brian

Jeff, ebay is a great idea too. Keep us posted.
Chuck

How awful! I'm sincerely sorry for your friend. Might not hurt to call a few pawn shops and tell them to be on the lookout for the blasted scumbags!

No good pieces of crap. Check your local craigslist too. Good luck I hope he gets it back. Jim

Did they take anything else?

Did anyone know of his collection from pictures posted on the internet?

Everyone, please be careful about the information you put on the internet. Some thieves are very good at pretending to be your buddy if they have seen your treasures posted on internet sites. Then when you aren't looking, they swipe your stuff.

Yes certainly, check ebay and the other sites but it will be very hard to get the artifacts back unless he has marked them someway to prove they are his.

Hope they do find their way back home though. Terrible thing when your stuff is stolen. You feel violated and vulnerable.

You have to also look at people who have seen the collection firsthand. If someone has seen collection online... its a possibility. Or a random act.

You could always post a reward for info leading to arrest or conviction.... If it was locals the more people that know about it the better your chances are.

Sorry to hear about that.

A few years ago I had about three grand worth of tools stolen from my garage. When I got with the pawn shops they were less than helpful - basically telling me to get the police to force them to tell or they would not help. They would not even let me look at anything fitting my property descriptions unless it was out front for sale. They did not want people afraid to bring stuff in and helping would ruin their reputations. Sleaze.
Hopefully these guys will try to unload the stuff locally and if you've alerted local buyers they will help out. Good luck.

Having photos of your stuff that can't be marked for ID (we call it an "Owner Applied Number") is invaluable for that kind of situation. I hope the Pawn Shops there have to get positive ID from people during a transaction like they do here in MO! But Indian artifacts are a little more of a specialty item and would probably be offered to a more exclusive audience. If you keep a close eye on those areas of specialty sales around the state in addition to eBay, the collection might turn up.
If you have the opportunity, make friends with someone from the law enforcement agency of jurisdiction and maybe they'll put extra effort into the case. Investigators have a lot of cases going at the same time and it is difficult to say if yours is going to be a priority. It never hurts to have a buddy on the force. If that's not an option, call the Investigations Supervisor, the Chief/Sheriff or Asst Chief/Chief Deputy periodically about the progress on your case. The squeaky wheel is more likely to get greased...............
I hope they catch the scumbag(s) responsible. It gets harder every year I do policework not to just beat the living crap out of thieves (and rapists and abusers and drug dealers and etc, etc, etc)........... they're scum, there's too many of them and they aren't being effectively punished!!!!
If I can just hold out for 7 more years (retirement)!!!!! -Sgt Jim

hey riverhunter, sorry about your friend! if he has pictures or some kind info try going to authentic artifact collectors association. they police the sale of stolen or fake artifacts. hope this might help!

THAT stinks. Thieves make me sick too! Last November my car was broken into and a $600 almost new pistol, laptop computer, case of vanilla coke, and other items were stolen. I am still hoping that individual tries to sell the pistol so we can catch him. Mean people SUCK!
