I think we'll need some close-ups to tell you have you really have. Did you find all those? Quite a nice display and variety! Yakker

Thanks for the reply, no I didn't find them, just the story I got, any particular ones you would like a close up of?

Why don't you start by dividing the lot up into, say, 6 groups. Try to group points w/ similar-looking bases (the non-pointy ends) For instance, I see triangle-shaped ones, ones with stems, 'bifurcated' ones (w/ 2 distinct 'ears' at the base), some are long and skinny and taper at both ends... and so on. - Then the random pieces, 'ugly' bits, and one-offs in a group of their own. At least then we can begin to see more- and let you know which among those subdivided groups is interesting enough to warrant another look. A lot easier than taking close-ups of them all. ;) Yak

You have a large selection of points, some are real nice:thumbsup:

Sorry for the delay in the pics

You've got some good ones! You got some Lecroy- (check out these examples and see if you don't agree): Lecroy - LITHICS-Net The one on the top center of first pic is really nice!
In pic 3 you have a drill, I think at top- black. And either a Madison (or a knife blade) left, under the coin. And under the black drill, a Levanna triangle (or some sort of triangle and another below that- look small enough to be a true arrowhead (as in bow and arrow), perhaps.

and a bunch more. Some (many, I bet) used as knives. In general, my thoughts are the first 3-4 pics are your best. Some hard to tell because of the angle of the picture. Of those pics, choose 5 or6 you think are the most beautiful - well made, symmetrical, nice lithic... And if you use natural light, they might show better. Thanks for those! The Lecroy, McCorckle, (Kirk)- types- the ones that have 'ears'- called bifurcated, They're my favorites in the lot- those and the triangle frame. (but that's just me;)) Yak

Thanks for the info, you have taught me more in this post than I ever knew about these pieces of art, I've always detected and been involved with civil war items, but this has me very intrigued and looks like an addictive hobby, my 13 year old son wants to look for them so I guess some research is in order, thanks again and yes they look just like the ones in the link you sent.

That's excellent! Always cool to bring in the young bloods (better eyes for one thing!). Definitely check out your local lithic, archaeological, (and...) websites to get a more accurate understanding of what you should be looking for and what you find. There's so much to learn, and it's easy to get sucked in to general information- the vast Wiki this and that, the Overstreet tome. They're great for general information, but sometimes it's just too much- and at the same time not specific enough to your particular region. Better to begin with local (state/region), just to pare it all down a bit. Good luck! Can't wait to see what you find down the road ;) Yakker

In the first pic bottom row right side count 5 to the left. I found one like it not long ago and found out it is call a Maccorkle its Early Archaic and dates 8000-6000 B.P. You have a nice variety from all periods. Are you in north or south TN?
