I've noticed that when a person has to ask, the answer is almost always rock. Usually when you're holding a true artifact, it is obvious. But this one has really got me wondering. I did not find this piece, it was discovered by my brother. I'm not sure where he even found it exactly, but he is the one who thought it may have been an artifact, and I always agreed with him that it was possible. It resembles an axe or hammer, but lacks the tell tale groove. So, what do you think? I am curious to know. Thanks.

I don't see any alteration by man. Just a cool looking rock. Keep searching :)

Any battering on either end? It doesn't look like from those pictures. If it was a Hammer Stone or an Axe it would either have battering on the ends or a Blade edge on one end and I don't see that. Looks to be just a naturally eroded stone.

Here are a few pictures of Hammer Stones and Peck Stones, plus a 3/4 Grooved Axe. All personal finds. If you look closely you can see the battering I am talking about from where they were used to hammer with. And as you can see on the Axe, it would have some type of Blade on it.

Hope this helps.

No battering, smooth all the way around.

Yes, an interested rock. Put it in your flower bed to enjoy it. Mr Reaper, super finds. That ax head is a real work of art. Tell me the ancient ones didn't take pride in their craft.

Thanks. Here are the in situ pictures of the find.

Grim that is one nice looking ax. Was it found in KY?

Yes, beautiful pieces. One of those grooved axe's is on my bucket list. I kind of figured that was just a rock, but thanks for confirming.
